BMW Experience Center / ARCHIHOPE

June 22, 2022 Collin Chen 0

From Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG to BMW VISION NEXT100, BMW, with a history of one hundred years, is not only a car brand but also a kind of culture. On the basis of the changeable triangular texture unit seized from the conception car, NEXT100, the architects combined the geographical feature to create moving lines and connections in the Chengdu Baochuang BMW 4S Showroom, completing a unified and high-quality design from building renovation to landscape and interior space. Located beside the Guardian Road, Pidu District, Chengdu, the original building with a total floor space of more than 10,000 square meters had been abandoned for years, whose exterior wall bricks were seriously aging and partially had peeled off, and flues were exposed. So the renovation actually faced many challenges. The owner wanted the building to become a dynamic and remarkable volume, which meant it would be easy to be identified from the high-speed rail and highway across from the building and to incorporate BMW’s concept of being environmental-friendly and sustainable.

Located in the city of Montalvo, a satellite city of Babahoyo, Ecuador, with approximately 16 thousand inhabitants, has based its urban growth on a horizontal, dispersed, and low density. This has led to the abandonment of traditional organizational systems such as the gallery and the porch that promoted the connection with the street and community life. In this sense, it seeks to recover the link between private and public use.

The starting point of the project was the rehabilitation of an old shed in Vila Madalena seeking to maintain its language and structure, contrasting it with specific and precise interventions. The project proposes a neutral architecture and interior that will function as a background to receive a variety of products with different colors, functions, and dimensions.

No Art Bookstore / Qing Studio

The “Box-type waterproof wall” is the last barrier in the Yangtze River flood control system, the long strip space with 8m depth inside is encouraged to be used for various shops. However, in our impression, there are more clubs, high-end restaurants, and tea rooms, and luxury 4S shops. They stand in stark contrast to the people flying kites, dancing, walking dogs, and strolling in the riverside park. This bookstore transformation, with coffee and exhibitions, is the first space in the section that really opened the door and welcomed people to come and go freely. On the other hand, as an architect in Wuhan, it is particularly meaningful to do a project on the riverbank. After all, the flood of 1998 is our most important childhood memory.

HAYDON Nanjing Store / DOMANI

May 10, 2022 Collin Chen 0

HAYDON, an emerging brand in the high-end multi-brand cosmetics retailer favored by iconic venture capitalists, has been expanding its markets from the most first-tier cities in China at an astonishing speed since 2020 and has invited DOMANI to build the first store in Nanjing. The design concept is sourced from pure literature and echoed a wide creative perspective ranging from Wang Xiaobo’s The Green-Haired Sea Monster(1997) to the trendy acid visual style in the 2020s. Its hazy and luscious LSD fantasy challenges the boundaries of beauty and desire, and it’s rational while the rebellious tone is in line with the structural changes in Chinese retail consumers.
