New High-Rise-Block Böblingen District Hospital / Baumschlager Eberle Architekten

September 28, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

High-rise landmark for healthcare campus. A high-rise block designed to serve a variety of uses – including a school for the health and care professions, staff living quarters, and Klinikverbund Südwest’s central admin offices – complete with a car park was to be built as part of the planned new Flugfeld Hospital. The new 13-story tower makes a striking statement at the entrance to the new campus, its load-bearing framework a simple reinforced concrete shell constructed using largely recycled concrete. Large window openings give the building an upmarket feel and combine with the internal core to bring natural light to the common areas on all floors. Multi-story spaces positioned at strategic locations within the building provide meeting points conceived to promote encounter and exchange. Together, the tower and car park form a whole that is harmonious in both design and architecture. The car park, its upper stories set back from the building line, mediates successfully with the adjacent corner development, while its 16 half floors connected by an access core provide just under 600 parking spaces.

Hertogensite Residences / David Chipperfield Architects

September 11, 2024 Anna Dumitru 0

The Hertogensite residences are located at the edge of the medieval center of Leuven, an important university city near Brussels. The project forms part of a master plan for the redevelopment of a former hospital campus that had previously divided the west of the city from the center and as such will contribute to the opening of the site and its reintegration into the surrounding city. Set on a narrow site between a fragment of the city’s medieval wall and a branch of the River Dijle, the development is unique in that it combines several residential typologies: a 14-story tower, nine townhouses, and a small apartment block, uniting them in a single building.

OrigaMI Apartment / A I M

September 10, 2024 Anna Dumitru 0

In the heart of Milan, the renovation project of an apartment represents a balance between architectural tradition and contemporary living. In fact, the intervention aimed to enhance the historical elements of the architectural envelope, such as wooden and plaster frames, the original marble fireplace, and the typical symmetries of historic Milanese architecture; while at the same time integrating a contemporary and functional design into the interiors inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese design. This offers a relaxing and serene environment, characterized by clean lines through the use of ephemeral and light partitions, almost reminiscent of screens, and natural and pure materials with a palette of neutral and warm colors, with particular attention to the tactile qualities of natural materials and a passion for craftsmanship. This contrast between traditional containers and modern content creates a fascinating dialogue, where history and modernism coexist harmoniously.

Turbinenhaus / Atelier NU

September 9, 2024 Anna Dumitru 0

The Turbinenhaus is located in the Emmenhof area in Derendingen, directly related to the historical industrial buildings of the former spinning mill to the east and the hydroelectric power plant to the south. It forms the threshold to nature in the west and, together with the residential building in the north, defines the central spinning mill square. The concept and name are derived from the turbine—a machine rotating around a central axis, all-encompassing and in motion.
