stephane malka’s ‘blvck pyrvmid’ is a tribute to ancient egyptian architects

studio malka architecture has shared with us images of its latest project — a new structure that forms part of the giza pyramid complex. the architects say that they have rebuilt the site’s ‘legendary black pyramid’ as a tribute to ancient egyptian architects imhotep and hemiounou. named the ‘blvck pyrvmid’, the structure has been built according to the golden ratio, an omnipresent proportion in the construction of the cheops pyramid, (which is located opposite).

conceived by studio malka architecture as contemporary oasis, the new agora has been designed to allow visitors to congregate on the plateau. ‘it is actually an inverted pyramid, because the sixth degree of this buried pyramid is confused with the ground, thus conferring a link to the territory and to the man rather than strictly to the sky,’ explains the design team. soon to be adorned with traditional granite, ‘blvck pyrvmid’ is said to be the thirteenth pyramid erected on the giza plateau.
