House for Gonda / Office for Environment Architecture

Transformation of unconnected environments – A painter who draws Mt. Fuji in someone’s bath told me that he had found three “warehouses” for sale on a real estate site at a bargain price, so I went to see it. It didn’t seem to have been used as a residence, but the fact that it had a simple kitchen with the purchase tape from the home center and a brand-new toilet was a real added value that “can be used as a residence.” It seemed convenient, but it did not meet the performance as a residence at all.

Iga was once known as a historical town but has come to resemble an industrial area with huge factories on the south side of the Meihan expressway, which bisects the city. Gallery / Salon H is located in a residential area, developed in the 70s for local factory workers.

Along the coast of northern Norway lies the island of Kalsholmen: a barren rock in the vast ocean, with a small, white lighthouse at its top. In 1917, a storm destroyed the first lighthouse that was situated on the neighboring island. Following this tragedy, a new lighthouse was built in 1919 on Kalsholmen. Automated and depopulated in 1993, today the lighthouse only welcomes the occasional visitor if the weather allows.

NIPPAN Group has built the most significant wholesale book business in Japan. For the office renewal project, we planned to create a communication library. The displayed 2000 books were hand-picked by employees, and there is a note from the selector once you open the book. You can find the recommendations, memories, and reasons for choosing the book. Books selected by other employees can be an opportunity to find colleagues with similar interests and create new interactions. When you are stuck in your work, books will provide inspiration and improve the quality of the work. We designed a way of communication and new workstyles through the office library, and this was a leading challenge in Japan.

Curtain of Cloud Pavilion / PRACTICE

Due to its geographic characteristics as the vicinity of the airport, Magok District is subjected to height restrictions. As a by-product, sky, and clouds can be seen anywhere. These wide skies and clouds were the most primitive subjects of artistic sense during our childhood, taking us back and forth between reality and surreal states.

Rau Haus / Feldman Architecture

June 23, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

A couple with a young daughter looking to leave the city in search of more space contacted Feldman Architecture to design a new home – a modern, secluded residence with a dedicated zone for hosting family and friends. With a site selected with sweeping views over Coal Creek Open Space Preserve, the team’s vision centered around completely immersing visitors in rolling green hills while offering a rare, distant glimpse of the San Francisco Bay to the north. The design centers around thoughtfully orienting public and private living spaces towards views while creating a sense of privacy from the neighboring lots above. The 3,433 square foot L-shaped building footprint is gently tucked into the eastern hillside, creating an enclosure for outdoor moments, and framing a wide array of views from indoor living spaces.
