Single Person / Offhand Practice

April 4, 2026 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

185 Yongkang Road formerly was a 60-square-meter street dinner. During our first site visit in November 2018, The venue itself did not leave us a particularly deep impression. The only intuitive feeling is that the venue is long and narrow. In December, client decided to use this venue for a vintage houseware gallery, named ‘Single Person’.

Youth Commons / Studio RE+N

April 2, 2026 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

Never designed as a theater, yet through everyday gathering it ceaselessly stages its own impromptu drama—a forgotten rooftop in a small Chinese county becomes a community commons where minimum material yields maximum public life. In the Shuinan Sub-district of Songyang County, Zhejiang Province, a second-floor platform sits enclosed by multiple residential buildings. Built between 2015 and 2017, the community failed to operate effectively for years; the platform had long been left unused—its surface cracked, facilities absent, a rudimentary public restroom fallen into disrepair. Despite its central location, the lack of physical accessibility and clear programmatic logic left the space largely ignored.

A Local Renewal of Fushan Coffee / MINOR lab

April 1, 2026 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

The project is located in Haikou, Hainan Province, where the sea and tropical vegetation define the city’s natural context. Approximately sixty kilometers to the northwest lies Fushan Town, the origin of coffee cultivation in Hainan. Established in the 1970s, Fushan Coffee has been embedded in regional daily life for decades, carrying both an agricultural lineage and a vernacular cultural presence. Commissioned by Fushan Coffee, the project reimagines the new coffee space as a medium for the brand’s story—one that allows visitors to experience its history, production, and locality. This position informs both material strategy and spatial organization.

Set in Shanghai’s M50 Creative Park—a repurposed former woolen mill—BROWNIE/Project gallery merges art and commerce, extending beyond conventional photography exhibition to explore interactions between space, people, and life. Housed in a converted factory, the space retains distinctive industrial features: concrete columns, steel frames, and vintage wooden structures salvaged from an old Suzhou River bridge. The client insisted on preserving these historic elements while introducing new functions, aligning with the design team’s vision.

A Community Art Ecosystem in Practice / MINOR lab

March 28, 2026 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

Project Background – As China’s urban development gradually shifts from incremental construction to stock renewal, a new urban agenda has emerged: the reactivation of spatial value within existing community structures, transforming building stock into community assets of public significance. The project is located within a residential community completed in 2021. Through the transformation of three distinct spaces—the conversion of an ancillary building into a community art center, the renovation of an adjacent area into a community café, and the adaptation of a residential unit as an artist studio—a spatial network is established, linking public exhibition, social interaction, and individual creative practice.

Circle Pit / Studio Clash

March 26, 2026 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

Xiangchun (toona sinensis) holds a unique significance in the lives of people in Shandong, symbolizing nostalgia and regional culture. Often rain-grown, its seeds drift with the wind. Due of their intense spring aroma, it becomes a key ingredient for “tasting the spring.” In the valley of Zibo City, Shandong, four Xiangchun seeds once took root and grew beside a solitary rock, eventually transforming into four large trees encircling the rock. They witness the natural succession and have become symbols carrying local memory and emotion, forming the core and narrative starting point for the “Circle Pit” installation.

Block Kindergarten / SoBA

March 24, 2026 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

Block Kindergarten is located east of Hongqi Road and north of Zhenchuan Road in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. The campus occupies approximately 1.01 hectares with a total floor area of about 8,600 square meters and is planned as a 21-class kindergarten. The site is surrounded by a complex urban context. High-rise residential towers stand to the north, with additional housing planned to the east. To the south lie several municipal facilities, including a 110kV substation, a waste transfer station, and an emergency medical center. These conditions present both spatial and psychological challenges: tall residential buildings create a sense of enclosure, while the municipal infrastructure introduces visual and environmental disturbance.
