Bishan Cultural and Art Center / TANGHUA ARCHITECT & ASSOCIATES

September 5, 2017 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

Bishan Cultural and Art Center is located in the north of Central Park Lake, Bishan, Chongqing. It is one of the earliest projects in this area, and it is also the most important component of public service complex in Chongqing Green Island District. The County Annals of Bishan recorded that : In the past, people used to take the mountains as jade. In addition, these mountains were said to yield jade-like stones. So they called it Bishan (mountains which is made of jade). Bishan Cultural and Art Center recreates the ancient description of “Bishan” in an abstract way. It reflects the landscape of the environment. We want it to be a “place” rather than a building.

Jingshan Boutique Hotel / Continuation Studio

August 1, 2017 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

This is a project that started from engaging with the site. The site is located up on a mountain ridge, next to a reservoir’s dam. There was previously a two-story “San-Ho-Yuan” style dormitory block built back in the 1980s, with a courtyard surrounded by the concave form of the block. There stands an ancient pine in the centre serves as the heart of the courtyard, with its dense canopy covering half of the courtyard and part of the building. Meanwhile, the historical context of the site, to the north of the Jing-Shan Mountain that once gestated the Zen tea ceremony, has prepared it with a deep historical and cultural ambiance. As a result, to preserve the courtyard structure as well as the ancient pine, in order to generate its potential spatial spirit, has been established as our design proposition.
