It’s hard for people to find a quiet retreat in the bustling city nowadays. In this context, SALONE DEL SALON conceived a poetic and elegant dining environment for restaurant brand Ting Feng Xie. Here people can temporarily escape away from the hustle and bustle of the city while enjoying delicious crab cuisine. SALONE DEL SALON responded to the brand’s culture and incorporated fashionable, architectural, and artistic elements into the restaurant, to immerse guests in a crab delicacy journey in a diversified dining space characterized by a tranquil atmosphere, pleasant colors, and enjoyable experience.
After winning the competition in 2018, the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have completed the Chengdu Sports Center (also known as Dong’an Lake Sports Park), an ensemble consisting of three new sports and leisure buildings in the Chinese metropolis Chengdu. It will be the venue for the coming FISU World University Games. The new sports center will become the focal point of Dong’an New Town – an area situated by the water to the west of the city center, in the heart of the Longquan district. The ensemble comprises a group of buildings around a central plaza, consisting of a sports hall with 18,000 seats, a multifunctional hall for culture, leisure, and popular sports, as well as an indoor pool complex with two 50-meter swimming pools.
Bouyei traditional villages in the mountains
Banwan Village is located in the mountains of southwest Guizhou province. This is a very well preserved traditional Buyi village because of its remoteness. In 2016, Banwan Village was selected to be the target of reconstruction by TV station. They built a primary school there. After the mass shoot, the mountain fell silent again. Nonprofit organizations run Minor renovations until in the village. At the end of 2020, “Almost Studio” entered the mountain based on the works of senior designers. It presided over the transformation design of Bouyei traditional buildings and the environmental construction of the whole village. The cutting-edge technical is not necessary in rural area, countryside needs “not so smart” architect. Sometimes rural design has nothing to do with popular aesthetics. it requires architects to take root in the site patiently, design architectural issues from a local perspective with local materials. Architects should evaluate the technical level of the construction team and consider logistics and costs, ignore design boundaries and solve local problems effectively
The site of this project is located in the western mountainous area near Beijing city, occupying a low-lying site within a mountain village, roughly 100 square meters in size. The original spatial condition was crowded and chaotic, and although people lived within the wilderness of the mountains, they could hardly feel the beauty of their surroundings.
The project is located in the suburbs of Wuhan. The owners are internet professionals, a family of four who wanted a vacation cabin in nature to accompany their children and relax. The house is built with a light wood structure and hidden in the bushes.
Guangzhou Siyou Vanke Centre is located at the junction of Guangzhou Avenue and the former waterway of the Pearl River. Baiziwan Social Housing (later referred to as Baiziwan) is the first affordable housing project by MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong. Situated near the CBD (central business district) in Beijing, the project covers an area of 93,900 square meters, with a total construction area of 473,300 square meters. The scheme is comprised of 12 residential buildings collectively providing 4000 households. Since its completion, almost 3000 families have moved in. The project offers dwellings for welfare dependents and young professionals. The project is a culmination of Ma Yansong’s extensive research into social housing, which began in 2014. Under the thematic topic “The Sociality of Social Housing,” MAD’s research focuses on the historical development and design of social housing across different countries. The research has been further developed by Ma Yansong’s own engagements with this subject while teaching at Tsinghua University and the Beijing Architecture University. Later, Beijing’s Public Housing Center invited Ma Yansong to design the Baiziwan Social Housing in 2014. MAD saw the commission as an opportunity to improve the living conditions of low-income communities and introduce a fresh perspective to the current dull residential design image in China.
From Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG to BMW VISION NEXT100, BMW, with a history of one hundred years, is not only a car brand but also a kind of culture. On the basis of the changeable triangular texture unit seized from the conception car, NEXT100, the architects combined the geographical feature to create moving lines and connections in the Chengdu Baochuang BMW 4S Showroom, completing a unified and high-quality design from building renovation to landscape and interior space. Located beside the Guardian Road, Pidu District, Chengdu, the original building with a total floor space of more than 10,000 square meters had been abandoned for years, whose exterior wall bricks were seriously aging and partially had peeled off, and flues were exposed. So the renovation actually faced many challenges. The owner wanted the building to become a dynamic and remarkable volume, which meant it would be easy to be identified from the high-speed rail and highway across from the building and to incorporate BMW’s concept of being environmental-friendly and sustainable.
Only a few meters from Quarry No. 9, one finds the entrance to Quarry No. 8, which houses a location for reading and studying that is distributed over various platforms in the interior. The space extends about 50 meters into the mountain and reaches a height of nearly 40 meters. This cave, too, was created as a result of stones being quarried by hand from the top down. The lateral terraces are evidence of faulty rock, which is why the quarrying of blocks was abandoned and a random interior topography was created.
