The Asu Houses / Ramos Bilbao Arquitectos

April 30, 2022 Valeria Silva 0

Located in a privileged place within a privileged enclave, the Asu houses are designed to be interpreted as a clear scheme of single-family homes which dance to the same rhythm, a composition of moving volumes caused by adaptation to the slight and subtle but noticeable unevenness, who maintain their independence from each other as part of the same family. This slight movement confers kindness to the volume, dynamism, and visual richness, avoiding becoming a rough and cold volume.

Sputnik Bar / Steiner Architecture

Launched in 1957, Sputnik was the first man-made satellite to orbit the Earth. This unassuming four-legged sphere circled our planet for three months before disintegrating in the atmosphere and occasioned the awkward period we know as the Space Race, during which the Soviet Union and the USA competed for astronautic supremacy.

Located in a typical street of the Valencian neighborhood of El Cabañal, the Mirasol house is recovered as a singular piece of this important seaside district of the city of Valencia. A modest, unpretentious, and anonymous construction that follows the characteristic typology of those old fishermen’s houses that once shaped the streets of the neighborhood.

BSP20 House / Raúl Sánchez

This complex project began 8 years ago, going through all kinds of situations: squats, regulatory disagreements, changes in use, slow and complicated work…although the client’s desire to leave the walls with exposed brick and use hydraulic mosaic (the cliché of Barcelona) remained unalterable. In addition, the requirements were to convert this small building located in the Borne district of Barcelona, from the end of the 19th century and with 4 floors (but barely 20sqm per floor), into a place where to be able to work and spend short stays in their visits to Barcelona, although, along these 8 years, the personal and family situation of the client has changed, to which the project has adapted.

Avila Warehouse Conversion / Allaround Lab

April 14, 2022 Valeria Silva 0

Ávila is a project that reinterprets what was originally an open-plan warehouse located in the Poble Nou neighborhood of Barcelona to turn it into a 120m2 multifunctional and habitable space. The proposal aims to carry out this transformation using what we call “the minimum means to inhabit a place”, namely, storage, humid spaces, and circulations, considering the entire free volume and not just it’s surface.

Cuernavaca Guest Bathrooms / Mario Herrera Holgado

April 13, 2022 Valeria Silva 0

The need to build some guest bathrooms and a storage room made us question the traditional models for these spaces. The first part of the project was based on finding the right location within the property, which houses a historic house built more than a hundred years ago, located in the city center of Cuernavaca. At the rear of the house, a large concrete slab suggests the location of a garden. It is right there where the first action arises, raising the concrete slab to be in contact with the earth again, lowering the temperature considerably and beginning the process of bringing the garden back.

Miter House on Kansas Street / Levy Art + Architecture

April 9, 2022 Valeria Silva 0

Our Miter House is a structure that is simultaneously solid and transparent. As you approach, the façade reveal its layered form. Bush-hammered stone cladding gives way to a smooth plaster layer that, in turn, sits atop a transparent layer of windows taught, frameless, corner glass that captures the view and invites the eye in. This is a representation of our client: private at first, but familiar over time.

House in Monte el Pardo / Slow Studio

April 1, 2022 Valeria Silva 0

The chosen location is Monte el Pardo, 30 kilometers from Madrid in a plot with fantastic views and orientation. Our clients expect their house to be empty for a good part of the year so they want to find a way to make it pay for itself by renting it out when they are away but maintaining a private space. Thus, the commission starts like a house with two independent areas that can be converted into one in the future. The sloping layout of the plot helps us to solve both needs by generating a two-story house with independent access from the outside to each level.
