The Norton Museum of Art / Foster + Partners and CBT

February 14, 2019 Paula Pintos 0

After years of planning, the Norton Museum of Art is re-opening to the public with a new wing and sculpture garden designed by Foster + Partners in collaboration with Boston-based design firm CBT. The new West Wing will completely transform the Norton Museum of Art’s 6.3-acre campus, improving Museum accessibility and openness while restoring the logic and clarity of the building’s original 1941 design by locating the new entrance along the main thoroughfare of the South Dixie Highway. The wing will also enhance the experience of interacting with art by reinforcing the relationship between the building and the landscape, creating a new social space for the community.

The main challenge in the project was to give the local community a meaningful church back. As a paradox, the tragic loss of the old church gave birth to a new beginning. The theme of the new church thereby became resurrection. Together with the artist, Espen Dietrichson, we worked with different design elements to manifest the theme through the project. The most important element is the work with daylight coming into the church from different daylight openings. This symbolizes hope, and that light defies darkness, after the tragic loss of the old church.

Step out of your caravan into the shade and fresh air, protected by a canvas annexe which frames a view of the lush landscape beyond. This experience was the inspiration behind BENT Annexe, an addition for a delightful family of four and their two adorable Dachshunds. Because every day should feel like a breath of fresh air, surrounded by nature.

Fondation Galeries Lafayette / OMA

February 7, 2019 Paula Pintos 0

A late 19th-century industrial building is refurbished for Fondation d’Entreprise Galeries Lafayette to house exhibition and production spaces, with a focus on creation, innovation, and research. OMA has inserted an exhibition tower into the courtyard of the building in which two sets of mobile platforms will offer a large repertoire of spatial configurations; the programmatic flexibility provided increases the potential of the existing building. A production centre at the heart of the site underpins the Fondation, while the ground floor becomes a passage connecting rue du Plâtre to rue Sainte- Croix de la Bretonnerie and hosts the public programs.
