The site is enthroned on the slope above Rapperswil-Jona with breath-taking views of the castle, lake and mountains. Precisely positioned, the structure defines the edge of the slope, with a large sweep of space around the house that has become extremely scarce in such locations. The archetypal shape with a gabled roof forms an appropriate framework for the apartment house: three parties in one house, under one roof.
As the first phase of a much larger and broader Master Plan, the new Arrival Garden with its Moody Pavilions establishes a new public face for the institution and clarifies a dedicated pedestrian entry from West 35th Street just south of the historic gate.
The new high-quality housing project offers 15 innovative apartments, sheltered in green and lush surroundings in Askeveien, Skøyen, Oslo. The residential building band together with the adjacent historical landscape and built environment in a respectful manner while adopting a modern language in an area under development. Skøyen, west part of Oslo, is since the late 80’s being transformed from an old industrial area to a modern business district with a growing number of residentials. There are high ambitions to make Skøyen a lively neighborhood through densifying the area and advancing public transport which will make it one of Norway’s largest junctions. The site is only a few minutes’ walk away surrounded by private houses and villa-like multi-family dwellings in a diverse architectonic language, many of which are listed for conservation. With proximity to an English park, ash-trees dominates the lush greenery around the plots and has given name to the street and the project.
Following the earthquakes of September 2017, different architectural offices, designers and collaborators, both national and international, joined ReConstruir México, a project supported by PienZa Sostenible, which emerged with the aim to join forces to achieve conscious and sustainable reconstruction projects. Seventeen months after the tragedy, PienZa Sostenible has achieved to manage more than 150 reconstruction projects in six states thanks to the support of different donors, agencies and volunteers, with the aim to improve the quality of life of people in the communities that not only suffered serious effects on their heritage, but also faced serious degrees of vulnerability and social deprivation. From August 2017 to today, a total of 16 homes have been delivered in Ocuilan, State of Mexico. The project promoted by #LoveArmyMéxico, and that has the support of foundations and trusts such as Fundación Origen, ¡Échale! a tu Casa, Fideicomisio Fuerza México and PienZa Sostenible, consists of 50 single-family homes designed by more than 40 architecture offices, as well as a Community Center, by T_O Arquitectura.
Reconstruction of a country house in the Murta Valley. The house is located on a gentle slope of orange tree terraces facing north and the banks of the Xúquer River. The entrance is through a staircase and a large garden terrace raised above the ground, leaving the construction structured by a transverse axis that, from the access and the exterior terrace, crosses the house and reaches the interior garden courtyard.
Archiloft project (450 sq.m.) – new public and event space in Moscow, Russia – is the result of renovation of an energetic station of the first half of 20th century. The architecture replies on the concept of highlighting the historic brick shell while providing a contemporary interior space for public and commercial events.
Set in the Coast Mountains of western Canada, Whistler Ski House is a family retreat built to withstand the harsh mountain environment. Elevated ten feet above grade, the main level provides a sense of occupying the tree canopy while also floating above snowdrifts and flood prone lake shore. Due to the nature of the deep soft soil on the lake shore and the home’s location in a high seismic risk zone, the house is supported on a continuous 2-foot thick raft slab on densified soil, created by a series of vibro-densified rock columns that extend 60 to 68 feet deep into the ground. The raft slab “floats” on the densified soil which allows the house to remain stationary during a seismic event that would cause un-densified soil to slide into the lake.
The work is located on the southern edge of downtown Buenos Aires, in Barracas neighborhood, within the arts district, on the border with the neighborhoods of San Telmo, and Constitución. The zoning in the current urban planning code is APH 1 14. The existing house is before 1920, according to “Aguas Argentinas” plan dated August 4, 1920. We intend to intervene with the premise of the recovery and restoration of the architectural piece looking for the revaluation of its symbolic character as part of the urban context, considering with special valuation the adaptations for contemporary domestic use, maintaining its character.
The concept for the renovation of this sacred auditorium was built on 3 main elements: the ceiling, the marble base and the cross plus the connection with the chapel behind. We wanted that the entire lower level of the auditorium appeared as one same material. This was a crucial part of the concept. It was also important that the material used was a natural one and that it symbolized a product that was a result of nature and time. Besides the tonality of the travertine, its beauty is in the fact that it is a material that – during formation – the travertine allows the natural element of water to pass through it, and leaves marks throughout the material. This process symbolizes the listeners in the auditorium who are absorbing the holy word that is being received.
A housing community is the latest reincarnation of this one hundred and ten-year-old structure. Built by J. Edward Chapman in 1908 over the remnants of his horse stable destroyed by fire and his old coal yard sales shed, Chapman Coal Company Garage and Stables represents a significant contribution to the broad patterns of history and embodies distinctive characteristics of early twentieth century life in Washington, DC. For these reasons the building and site are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The identity of the new housing community is derived from this rich history.
